A Dance With the Stars

When fate changed the tune,
Life stood up to dance,
History whispered in my ear,
Hinting at another chance.

As memories faded into now,
I felt destiny take my hand.
The stars are calling you forward,
Urging you to stand.

What if you were all you could be,
The voice continued to say.
What if you let go of what held you,
Let today be a new day.

Could you let the possibility in,
And let the doubt disappear?
Could you exist within your power,
And not succumb to your fear?

See yourself as the stars do,
Their infinite and amazing child,
Meant to live a life not controlled,
But free, vivid, and wild?

The key to this promised life,
Is deep within your perfect heart.
Guarded by your insecurities,
Regarded as your weakest part.

What if you offered forgiveness,
To all the dark parts of yourself?
Releasing your pain,
Regaining your wealth.

Could you dance with the stars,
And change your very fate?
Will you grab hold of this moment,
Or for the next dance wait.

Internal Compassion

A summer storm rolls overhead,
As I sit here lost inside my head,
Dreaming of the future and reliving the past,
Analyzing the days of a life gone by too fast,
Drifting further from my waking state,
Entertaining thoughts of time and fate,
Wondering what it means to be real,
Here with my eyes closed do I exist still?
Did the world I know just disappear?
Lost in potentiality while I linger here?
Time gives a shudder and breaks itself free,
Floating all around me I lost track of where it should be,
As I drift even further along on this quest,
I gain perspective on the lessons and their tests,
The failure and pain that used to tease and taunt,
Have been seen as they are and lost their power to haunt,
The light of the blessings from each and every one,
Begins to grow and warm like the perfect noonday sun,
The faces and grudges of my long held contempt,
Drift toward forgiveness, no longer holding me subservient,
Deeper still I fly into this loving void,
Swimming through the teachings of Jung, Proctor and Freud,
The bliss and oneness here I cannot truly take in,
For it is bigger than this identity I hold within,
Just as I start to bow before its grace,
The tendrils of compassion reach out and lift my face,
A voice in my head asks me why I would bow to what I see,
Opening my eyes to the love of God I found I was looking back at me.

The Path to Within

I took some time to walk around this life of mine,
Wondering what it might be like beyond that soft and peaceful light,
From the stories told of a dark tunnel long and cold,
That leads to this light beyond this life,
Where love and happiness hold.

“There must be another way” to myself I say,
Then a ticket from death upon our last breath,
To board the train to that utopian plane,
Claiming early our seat in our hearts defeat,
Lost in the mundane without the strength in life to remain.

To taste of the bliss from eternal summers kiss,
To feel the joy existing beyond realities decoy,
While breathing in this place; in only this time, in only this space,
Present in the now yet so much more somehow,
Aware of what may come without pressure from Fate to succumb.

Free to choose a path without fear of Destiny’s wrath,
That leads to that light while still remaining in my life,
To allow the love within to match the love found in my vision,
Of what it might be like beyond that soft and peaceful light,
Where I’ll connect once again to lost loved ones and friends.

A quote from my youth seems to speak to this truth,
Of a way to feel the peace and from the stress of this life release,
A way to find that light and provide my life an overdue rewrite,
To match the me hidden inside; that one that from life seems to hide,
This quote from an ancient Greek, if studied will provide the way that I seek:

Know Thyself.

A Jester in the Court

A Tonka truck and a sand box,
Are all that is needed by the little boy.
A doll house and a tiara,
Are the little girls pride and joy.

But what of the adult,
Who has let their imagination stale,
Never taking that big leap,
Because of the fear they may fail.

To them the world is dark,
And fate is just a cold shoulder,
The sweet taste of love and success,
By the day grow colder and colder.

They do not dare to dream,
Nor aspire to be something more,
They do not look forward to tomorrow,
For they fear what may be in store.

But they are not lost to us,
These poor and lonely souls.
They only need our helping hands,
To begin to fill their empty holes.

As they stand against the crowd,
They need some love and support.
Because an adult that plays in their mind,
Is treated like a jester in their court.

The spring time in flowers,
The winter in snow,
This comfortable feeling,
Of something constant I know.

The summer sun will shine,
In autumn the leaves will fall,
Searching for something true,
While through these seasons I crawl.

I know that clouds will come,
And some will sprinkle rain,
But there’s no way for me to know,
Which day will end this pain…

I know that snow will cover the ground,
And soon after melt away,
Still I’m left wondering,
Whether or not you’ll stay.

I know that someone’s watching,
From the clouds high above,
Yet I’m filled with a doubt,
Whether they really gave us love.

Give Thanks

Posted: 11th March 2010 by Timothy A. Rhoades in Inspirational Poems

Staring at the stars,
I see you there,
In all the passing cars,
I see you there.

I know you didn’t choose,
To leave me alone in this world,
I didn’t know what I had to loose,
Until it was taken from me,
Now I’m paying my dues,
As the pain sinks into me.

Then a smile crosses my face,
As the happiness returns,
It takes me to a peaceful place,
Where your memory dwells with me,
As for the pain, no longer a trace.

Your presence through life will always be,
You’ll always be in my heart,
And with you there any problem that I see,
Will show me no resistance,
And the grey skies of worry will flea.

I need to give thanks,
For the strength that you give,
And for all the lengths,
Your spirit does go,
For you being here I need to give thanks.

That Night

Posted: 11th March 2010 by Timothy A. Rhoades in Thought Provoking

He had it all,
One man said,
He could have been anything,
But now he’s dead.

Billy was a good kid,
Never one to pick a fight,
But just because he had some money,
That all changed in one night.

Billy never drank at parties,
But he did stay out late,
But someone like Billy,
Didn’t deserve this fate.

On kid said that deadly night,
I bet that kids got some cash,
Lets’ jump him for his money,
Beat him then take his stash.

So Billy left the party,
And headed for his car,
When three bad boys,
Made Billy see some stars.

Billy tuned right into the knife,
The kid dropped the blade,
They took Billy’s money,
And there on the sidewalk poor Billy laid.

Billy was a good kid,
Never did anything wrong,
But just because some kids were broke,
Billy’s lost his living song.

Coming Home

Posted: 11th March 2010 by Timothy A. Rhoades in Love Poems

This morning as I woke,
And took the morning’s breath,
The night’s sweet silence broke,
As to consciousness I rose.

Looking to my side,
An angel next to me,
The calming of my oceans tide,
This vision of heaven I see.

The slight brush of golden hair,
A glimpse of a rosed cheek,
I could not help but stare,
At this blessing given to me.

Then the loud hum of my alarm,
Wakes me from my dream,
This shock of reality does me no harm,
When I know your coming home to me.

A Misleading Moment

Posted: 11th March 2010 by Timothy A. Rhoades in Love Poems

A glance of your hand,
A playful look in your eye,
A misleading moment,
A heart breaking half lie.

Your intentions good,
I know you meant no wrong,
But what you don’t see,
Are the words to my song.

My heart silently singing,
So quietly weeping,
It sings to you,
Its cautions behind it leaving.

A misleading moment,
An accidental touch,
What more could I do,
Then fall in love with you.

Holding On

Posted: 11th March 2010 by Timothy A. Rhoades in Love Poems

As I lay here in my bed,
I’m haunted by a ghost,
A fleeting, chilly memory,
Of what I miss the most.

A glimpse into the past,
A vision lost in time,
A place held in your heart,
A hole now left in mine.

After you left me here,
I could not trust another,
So many came and went,
So much inside to suffer.

But I’m writing you today,
To finally say good bye.
You see I found another,
To give that chance, to try.

This hole in my heart,
I’m now starting to fill,
Not loosing why it’s there,
Holding your love still.

Trait of Atlas

Posted: 11th March 2010 by Timothy A. Rhoades in Thought Provoking

Standing by himself,
Holding another world,
Disregarding his needs,
His love now curled.

Standing all alone,
Inside his solemn fate,
Emotions well hidden,
No power left to hate.

Upon his weary shoulders,
The happy feet tread,
All completely unaware,
Of his impending dread.

Supporting all the weight,
Upon his solid blades,
Lonely in his world,
For an uncountable age.

He whispers to the darkness,
That lingers in this place,
Cradled in the silence,
Now devoured by this space.

The trait learned from him,
Is not his strength untold,
But something so much deeper,
Is the patience he has to hold.

That First Kiss

Posted: 11th March 2010 by Timothy A. Rhoades in Love Poems

A roller coaster ride,
To an unknown height.
This rippling envelopment,
Breaking through stone.
This reckless endangerment,
Of my once cradled soul.
This burning raging fire,
From this inferno untold.
Sparking an inner desire,
Breaking loose my stance.
Not a thought in my mind,
Not a sensation ever missed.
My sight completely blind,
From the power of that first kiss.

When I Danced With an Angel

Posted: 11th March 2010 by Timothy A. Rhoades in Love Poems

The things we saw,
The places we went,
Living purely for ourselves,
No concerning time spent.

Together growing closer,
As the years passed us by,
Living in the now,
Never glancing toward the future sky.

Loosing myself in you,
And watching you fall for me,
Now a gleam in my eye,
With the future I see.

Watching the years go on,
The band of love on your hand.
Lost in all the time we share,
Flowing like the hourglass sand.

The love inside of me,
So deeply blossomed and grew,
Now growing so much more,
Looking into my sons eyes of blue.

This family now started,
Formed on the one truth.
Stronger than the trial of time,
This love formed in our youth.

I look back to when I met you,
And can’t remember where the time went.
But I thank God for the dance,
Where I met the angel he sent.
