I woke this morning to the light,
That crept through my window sill.
Quietly screaming to myself,
Wondering why life goes on still. 

I get ready for my day,
And fight back all my cries.
I go on through this life,
Trying to forget all the lies. 

Others try to get close,
But I push them all away,
Finding all their faults,
Looking for everything wrong they say. 

I’ve locked my heart up tight,
With you still inside,
Surrounding myself with smiles,
Behind the laughter I hide. 

Maybe someday soon to come,
I will let someone in,
But until that sun rises,
Alone my heart will stand in sin.
